SAPAAC 2025 Board Election
SAPAAC is steered by a Board of Directors, composed of up to 15 alumni spanning many generations. Each year about half the board is refreshed, opening up seats for new board members. All Stanford alumni who are members of SAPAAC are eligible to run for the board. Each term is two years and members can serve up to two consecutive terms. We especially encourage alumni from diverse communities within the AAPI umbrella—South Asian, Southeast Asian, East Asian or Pacific Islander heritage—to run. We also value diversity in terms of geography, class year, ethnicity, and life experience.
Continuing into 2026 are 9 current board members: Katie Gu BS BA ‘18 MS ‘19, Julie Hsieh BA ‘98, Andrew Jabara BA ‘18, MS ‘19, Josephine Lau BA MA ‘06, Jin Park BA ‘91, Katie Gee Salisbury BA ‘07 MA ‘08, Risa Shimoda BS ‘77, Tony Tong BS ‘94, Sheila Wang MS ‘87. We plan to fill 6 vacancies on the board.
Stage 1: July 17 through Aug. 16, Candidates submit their nominations/applications; a virtual information session will be held on July 31.
Stage 2: Aug. 17 to Aug. 31, Voting by general membership
First meeting of the SAPAAC Board will be a virtual Welcome/Onboarding on Sunday, Sep. 21, 9 am - 12 pm PST / 12 pm - 3 pm EST. This meeting is mandatory for all new board members.
Board Member Responsibilities
Step up and make things happen. Whether it’s organizing events, spearheading advocacy issues, or liaising with campus organizations, if the board doesn’t take action, nothing will happen.
Attend monthly board and committee meetings. We meet infrequently, so please come together. Board members cannot miss more than 2-3 meetings.
Be open, respectful & responsive. Communicate with other board members in a timely manner. We use WhatsApp & Google Groups to stay connected.
Join a SAPAAC committee. And pitch in to get things done!
